“Do not develop my app”

The trend of companies pushing their apps for you to do simple functionality that could’ve been delivered through a webapp is extremely annoying. I’ve noticed companies (likeThe Economist, Reddit) using user hostile patterns like:

• short user sessions under the guise of security
• popups and prompts for app download
• restricting functionality to app users only when it can delivered via a webapp
• offering discounts to app users only

What’s worse is when the app is just a webview of their website.
