Getting free internet with a dish

Back in 2015, my girlfriend and I rented an apartment in Auckland CBD that overlooked the Law School at the University of Auckland.

I thought it'd be interesting to see if we could get reliable WiFi from the univeristy's network, and save us $100/month paying for broadband. I ordered a Ubiquiti PowerBeam to find out. The dish costs $195, so you'd get your ROI in 2 months.

After precariously attaching it to a tripod and configuring the dish, we got a connection! A pretty good one too! Speeds were typically around 100 Mbps, comparable to a solid VDSL connection.
