Back in 2015, my girlfriend and I rented an apartment in Auckland CBD that overlooked the University of Auckland Law School.
I thought it'd be interesting to see if we could get reliable WiFi from the university's network and save us paying $100/month broadband. I ordered a PowerBeam 400mm dish to try it out. The dish costs $195, so you'd get your ROI in 2 months 🙂.
After precariously attaching it to a camera tripod and configuring the disk, we got a connection! A pretty good one too! Speeds were typically around 100 to 200 Mbps, comparable to a good VDSL connection.
